Abstrakt

The project describes the development of a training program for evangelists at the Charles Street African Methodist Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Evangelism is discussed from the two perspectives of General Evangelism and In-House Evangelism. General Evangelism concentrates on witnessing to persons who are not members of a particular Christian religious body and to persons who have not accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour. In-House Evangelism focuses on involving persons of the local church in the total life of the church. Evangelism in prisons and hospitals is also discussed. The project emphasizes the personal preparation of the individual evangelist in terms of mental stability and spiritual strength. The project is evaluated from the three perspectives of the participants, the class leaders in the church and the DMin candidate. The training program might be useful in other churches.
