Abstrakt

This project proposes a model for assimilating newly baptized members into Seventh-day Adventist churches in Hawaii, emphasizing spiritual direction in a manual for pastors, new members, and spiritual guides. Demands of discipleship in Seventh-day Adventist congregations often cause Hawaiian converts to drop out rather than break their connections with family, culture, and lifestyle. Seventh-day Adventists need to nurture new converts after baptism through spiritual direction, so that the church comes to understand itself as the family of God.
