Abstrakt

The project involved a local congregation in expanding its ideas and experiences of prayer that combined quiet or silence, time for meditation and nonverbal or verbal prayer. Such prayer, defined as 'meditative prayer', places an emphasis on waiting for God. Meditative prayer underlines the need for quiet preparation as part of praying. A six-week Lenten series of sermons, workshops and model meditative prayers provide a broad approach to an entire congregation. The project report contains scriptural and theological support. Surveys taken at the beginning and conclusion of the project provide congregational definitions of prayer and evaluations of the project.
