Abstrakt

This project was designed to use the Delphi methodology to identify the most important societal and denominational issues impacting the United Methodist Church by the years 2000 and 2020. Two panels - local leaders and leaders with denomination-wide responsibilities - suggested and responded to 67 societal and 72 denominational scenarios about future situations in the denomination. The report identifies and analyzes the panel response to the 'top ten' societal and denominational issues and discusses the role of the General Council on Ministries in addressing the issues in the future. A theological rationale for futuring and proposed model of issues management for the denomination are included.
