- A mission statement becomes an instrument which can enable a congregation to establish, formulate, and develop an understanding of its identity and mission. The process of developing a mission statement gives direction and defines the reasons for which a community of faith exists. The process of developing and implementing a mission statement aides in building morale through unity and harmony, provides a vision for what the church is called to do, allows for a concentrated effort in the work of ministry, and assists in the evaluation process to determine the spiritual health and growth of the church.
