  • The thesis of this project is that the development of better communication between couples before and during a period of separation will result in fewer problems for family members and fewer crisis counseling sessions that focus on the status of relationships. This exploratory study is conducted with one Army battalion from Fort Knox, Kentucky, that participates in an extended field exercise at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. The hypothesis is confirmed by questionnaires, official military records, and personal responses by participants.
