Abstrakt

This project was designed and conducted to develop a profile for pastoral counseling in the Church of the Brethren from research in Brethren history, theology, polity, and organization. Over the past five-year period, interviews were conducted in a population consisting of Brethren clergy, district executives, and laypersons in three districts. These districts represent 80 percent of the total Brethren population area. The research undertaken for this project involved a phenomenological/experiential and analytical/interpretive methodology. The research resulted in recommending a delivery system for pastoral counseling which utilizes a modified family systems approach within the context of the congregation and/or district.
