  • Every preacher can be a better preacher. For consistent improvement to occur, there must be a plan for evaluation. In many areas of life it is possible to take personal inventory and evaluate oneself. Why not practice the same discipline in preaching? Improvement implies a standard. The author has concluded that the standard of preaching is made up of three essential elements. These elements are the content of the sermon, its ability to connect with the listeners, and spiritual life. A good sermon must proclaim the truth of Scripture, be relevant to those who hear it, and become a supernatural event. The author then questioned a group of pastors concerning their efforts for improvement. Fourteen of these pastors volunteered to participate in a six-week project for improvement through self-analysis. Only three of the volunteers actually participated. The author explains and analyszes the results of the survey and the experiences of those who did the personal review. He then assembles an improved plan for personal analysis.
