  • Located in the suburbs of Louisville, Kentucky, Second Presbyterian Church's major involvement in mission is through generous, often distant, financial donations. However, members remember being 'the church' in the aftermath of the April 1974 tornado when they served their community face to face. In this project, the author explored if meeting a mission recipient face to face, hearing their story, and photographing them would enable members to see the image of God in someone who is very different from them. Many of the twelve church participants had their eyes and hearts opened and became 'the church' anew.
