Abstrakt

The process of hiring associate pastoral staff in smaller congregationally governed churches is often difficult and costly to churches and their senior pastors. In this study the authors surveyed pastors who are looking to hire associate staff, seeking to ascertain their level of understanding and preparedness for the task at hand. The research revealed that most churches and their pastors have not agreed on a process for hiring associate pastors. The author concludes that it is the senior pastor who should lead the search for kindred spirit team members. These associates should be first persons of godly character and then highly qualified and capable of assisting the church achieve its ministry vision.
