- The purpose of this project is to establish a mentoring program for ministerial students at First Baptist Church, Sugar Land, Texas. Individuals within the church who have evidenced a call to vocational ministry will be paired with a pastoral staff member who will serve as a mentor. The program will attempt to develop these ministerial students through mentoring relationships. The project leader will meet weekly with the pastoral staff and ministerial students for large group teaching sessions related to spiritual growth and ministry. The six members of the pastoral staff will meet with smaller groups of ministerial students (two or three students) on a weekly basis for mentoring. The mentoring meetings will consist of debriefing these students on the personal growth achieved through the teaching sessions and various assignments. The pastoral staff will meet together weekly to discuss issues and questions related to individual groups. This project will provide a preparatory learning experience for ministerial students and show that mentoring is an effective means of spiritual and vocational growth. The project will also demonstrate that developing future ministers is a critical aspect of the pastoral ministry.
