  • In this project nine staff members leave a hierarchically organized pastoral counseling center to begin a new center using Carol Pierce's 'power equity group' model of organization. Seeking to develop a structure that is consistent with shared theological and ethical beliefs in equality, justice, mutuality, diversity, and community, the group members aim to engage in the process, make decisions by consensus, accept diversity, accept rersponsibility for group participation and process, and to become more self-revealing. The power equity group model works for small groups whose members have interest in and energy for process and are capable of personal insight. Large groups, task-oriented groups, and persons who tend to be passive in group settings will not find the model particularly useful.
