  • The purpose of this project is to study the use of metaphor in preaching to enhance an emotive and cognitive encounter with the gospel in the hearers. A committee of laypersons responded to and evaluated a series of four sermons using the metaphors of darkness and light. The project is the result of critical evaluation of the practicum and research in the area of metaphorical studies. The conclusion of the study is that the power of metaphor lies in its ability to evoke images and to shock the imagination.
