  • This project explores the question of how a theology and an ethic of relinquishment can be practiced within a community. The Christ-hymn of Philippians 2 is the scriptural model upon which the experiment was originally conceived. A small group of interested persons was assembled for the project. Using interviews, journals, and other tools which were utilized to measure the resources (money, possessions, but also time, health, values, etc.) of the project participants, steps were determined which might aid others who are interested in fashioning a simpler way of living. The project resulted in the participants' collective realization that obedience to God, born of gratitude for the grace, mercy, and provision of God, is the key for achieving a successful (faithful) outcome in the experiment of living more simply.
