Abstrakt

This paper is a response to a perceived need by the author to develop a model of ministry for providing effective pastoral care to those in the parish of St. John who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The project consisted in the preparation of the congregation through a series of sermons and the training and commissioning of eight volunteers to share in the work of the clergy. The paper also looked at how the social supports of the past were being eroded as the society became more developed. The initial response of the congregation suggests that such a model has potential but will need time to be fully effective.
