  • Today, evangelical missions are hoping to bring an entirelt new reputation to the former Yugoslavia -- a place of partnerships. These East-West partnerships face many challenges: older Mission Boards who have little local experience and firmly entrenched approaches of the Venn and Williams three-self model, cultural challenges, leadership changes, historical challeges, and financial challenges. How healthy is a partnership model? What exaclty is a partnership model? Which scriptures address a partnership model? Why will older mission strategies of the past not work in the Balkans? Are these partnerships helpful or hurtful? What is most needed to progress? These are questions addressed in this thesis. In the conclusion a leadership development model is proposed.
