  • The author studied the effect the variable of the segmented format used in most television programming would have on the comprehension of persons who listen to sermons. The hypothesis was that there would be no difference between postsermon test results following traditional sermons and test results following sermons divided into four parts. The author presented six sermons in each format. Following the worship services randomly selected persons completed a 20-question multiple-choice test to determine content retention. T-tests of grand mean scores for tests following each format revealed no significant difference in levels of comprehension. Both immediate and delayed recall were measured.
