Abstrakt

Based on interviews and a survey conducted in Harmony United Methodist Church in Hamilton, Virginia, this project determines four obstacles that hinder personal evangelism: negative attitudes about evangelism, lack of ability to do evangelism, no sense of a mandate from Jesus Christ, and a perception that there are no opportunities to evangelize. The project provides a means to overcome these obstacles through development of a workbook and a study course used with a focus group at Harmony Church in the fall of 1995. Interviews conducted after the six-week program indicate that the project succeeds in addressing the identified obstacles and enriches the congregation's program of evangelism.
