Abstrakt

The thesis is that Christian theology may be taught successfully to secondary students by the means of poetry. Religion has been used by some modern Australian poets and this use is discussed. Some theopoetic views of Australian and United States writers are given. Poems by the Australian poets Judith Wright, Alec Derwent Hope, James Phillip McAuley, Gwen Harwood, Bruce Dawe and Les Murray are analysed. A report is included on some theopoetic lessons given to students and it concludes that it is possible to teach theology through the vehicle of poetry.
