Abstrakt

This research project studied factors influencing marital satisfaction in a pastoral counseling group for married couples. The research method employed grounded theory, which is based on observation and moves from specific incident to general principle. Exegetical study of Genesis 2:18-25 and Ephesians 5:21-33 concluded that God's intent for marriage was an intimate mutual community. An object relations theory study of marriage revealed that the primary human need to be loved and validated motivates marital interaction. The clinical research concluded that the core hindrance to marital satisfaction was the narcissistic vulnerability of each marital partner.
