The thesis describes and evaluates a spiritual and educational program intended to encourage the growth of grassroots leadership in lay Franciscan communities within the Roman Catholic Church. The program was presented as two weekend retreats/workshops offered to lay Franciscans belonging to different regional communities. These weekends, presented by a team including both clergy and laity, sought to provide a spiritual framework for the participants, but also focused on encouraging leadership development through the sharing of experience, the modeling of leadership style, and the presentation of educational material.
