  • The church has the responsibility to address the issue of welfare reform by providing a ministry intended to assist families in moving from dependency on public welfare to self-sufficiency. Research data from numerous sources provide a portrait of welfare in the United States and was used to implement educational and motivational activities to empower affected families making the transition to self-sufficiency. After completion of the project, participating recipients were prepared to make the transition. Further, members of Bethel Church were helped to understand public assistance and their role as a community of care for poor families.
