  • In the Texas Conference using materials developed by the Rural Social Science by Extension Project. Pastors assigned to small town and rural churches who have little or no background in small town culture go through a culture shock akin to those who are serving in a foreign land. This project was designed to introduce the culture and values of the small town and help participants identify the issues with which people in these communities are dealing. By using the accumulated knowledge and experience of participants and the writings of rural sociologists, several key issues were identified during this three-day workshop and solutions were established collectively. The evaluation by participants indicated that this workshop was helpful, practical, and positive.
