  • This project encompassed plans to aid parishioners in discipleship, to help build an environment for relevant connections between faith and vocation through local church experiments, and to enable this church to celebrate the various ministries of its members. Procedures included 1) an ongoing men's breakfast group to address faith and vocation and participation in a sermon series on the issue; 2) a Health Professionals' Convocation with 18 parishioners for an intensive examination of the same issue. The results were undramatic: the Health Professionals' Convocation included enlightenment, confusion, controversy and sensitivity. Of much greater impact were the sharing and interpreting around the event. Programmatic suggestions were referred to appropriate church boards. An outgrowth of the Convocation, a sharing group on suffering, presently meets weekly. The Men's Breakfast Group addressed the faith/vocation issue; it was influential in helping the pastor improve in preaching quality and clarity on this difficult subject.
