Abstrakt

The author traces the development of the Consultation on Church Union (COCU) and critiques its latest theological consensus. He faults COCU for not involving the middle judicatories in its work, since those bodies elect the delegates who vote on any proposal for church union. He then describes the unique cooperation of five denominations in the shared ministry in Utah and demonstrates what can be accomplished when there is a commitment to work together. He offers a model for others to use, whether or not COCU's Covenanting Toward Unity proposal is adopted.
