  • Reviewing the global tendency toward collectivization, this project concludes that, if personal morality is nothing more than a reflection of historically conditioned collective values, then it is in danger of collapse. In response, the project proposes that a recovery of 'transcendence,' as defined in Carl Gustav Jung's theory of the unconscious, is the antidote to such a collapse. Based on Jung's understanding of projection, conscience, and individuation, the project echoes the call of Erich Neumann for an integration of the unconscious component of motivation in the ethical enterprise, concluding that such integration is as much art as science.
