  • The situation of the materially poor in the Third World is often dismissed in the developed world from an oversimplified perspective. Education is one means of bringing about a more realistic view. To carry out this purpose, the study uses the andragogical model of education, as delineated by Knowles, to focus on a process of reflection and action among a small group of adults from five congregations in downtown Indianapolis. In addition to library research, the study uses questionnaires, interviews, and observation to guide the inquiry. Results indicate increased awareness of the fallacy of describing the poor in stereotype.
