  • This study describes homiletical pedagogy among seminarians in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America during internship and assesses factors contributing to effective homiletical training in this setting. Data was gathered using semi-structured interviews conducted with interns and supervisors. Interviews were reviewed for common themes and any correspondence between data gathered and classic homiletic training and New Testament preaching. This study discloses that homiletical pedagogy is effective when supervised in a systematic manner, is theologically strong while methodologically weak, supervision varied greatly focusing more on evaluation than instruction, and internship as a venue for such has yet to be fully explored.
