  • Using a process called 'upward feedback,' this project explores a shift of leadership from authoritarian to collegial models. Upward feedback is a management strategy in which supervisors receive anonymous relational and behavioral counsel from those who report to them. Four senior pastors in larger United Methodist churches participated in the project. They redefined power as a capacity for an agreed-upon common course of action in unconstrained communications. Through peer reflection the senior pastors explored the vulnerable position in receiving anonymous feedback from colleagues and shared their feedback and action plans with denominational supervisors and church supervisory committees.
