  • This study uses library research, interviews/surveys and consultations in order to present mentoring as an Afrocentric model for theological field education. Mentoring is highlighted as an alternative method for African Americans to meet field education requirements. Afrocentricity is an ideological foundation for the ministerial preparation of African American seminarians. The Afrocentric Mentoring Program demonstrates a culturally harmonious model of theological field education for African American students. Another model offered is the Mentored Ministry Program at the Center for Urban Ministerial Education.
