  • The author conducted case studies of three churches to learn what rural churches are doing to evangelize and disciple newcomers in demographically changing communities. Through multiple interviews at sites in Oregon and Washington, the author discovered that welcoming newcomers requires the church to adopt a missional mindset that serves the community. Congregants individually serve where the community sees a need and build relationships that provide a basis for introducing friends to Jesus. As newcomers attend church they are welcomed, realize they belong and are enabled to connect with other Christians around the Bible in small groups.
