Project reviews a long-term-care (LTC), skilled unit, nurse aides, five-week inservice. Scripturally based on the Good Samaritan parable focus on 'compassion.' Goal: enhance skills of aides, complementing their 'person-centered' care while working in a 'task-oriented system.' Didactics covered three listening approaches: reminiscing, reality orientation, validation therapy; and three theories of aging: continuity, disengagement, age stratification. Other teaching methods: role play, family interviews, one-on-one visitation. Conclusion synopsis: The African-American women who had made a career choice in LTC demonstrated greater compassion and were naturally 'person-centered' when 'task oriented.'.
