  • An alternative to the current salary structure for clergy of the Memphis Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church is needed. The current salary structure is based on a corporate model that encourages greed and the desire for upward mobility. An alternative model should be grounded in biblical and Wesleyan understandings of stewardship. In developing this model the author used the Pro-Active Research Method. Research and study resulted in the proposed formation of a standardized salary system based on scripture, the teachings of John Wesley, and the financial needs of local church clergy.
